How to Build a Social Media Reel from AI Video Clips
Updated September 28, 2026
Current AI video models produce clips of only a few seconds, which is not a limitation if you plan for it. A 20–30 second Reel can be assembled from eight to ten short clips.
Step 1: Plan a simple storyboard
Write down 8–10 shots in order. Keep each idea to one subject and one movement, for example "close view of city lights", "slow zoom on coffee steam", "drone-style shot over mountains".
Step 2: Generate in portrait
Choose the 9:16 aspect ratio so the clips fill a phone screen and you do not need to crop later.
Step 3: Generate two or three versions of each shot
Not every result will be good. Having spares lets you pick the cleanest one.
Step 4: Edit
Import the clips into CapCut, Premiere or DaVinci Resolve. Trim each to the best 2–3 seconds, cut on the beat of your music, and add captions. Colour grading the whole sequence with the same look makes separate clips feel like one video.
Step 5: Add sound
Audio matters more than most people expect. Trending or royalty-free music and a light sound effect on transitions help the sequence feel polished.
Step 6: Check the rules
Some platforms ask you to label AI-generated content. Review the current policy before you publish.
Start with your first clip on the generator.
